Fall is ending and winter is sneaking up on us - don't let this cramp your style. Keep scrolling below to see a roundup of the top trends from fashion month. With something for everyone, runways ran the gamut from sheer utility to Y2K low-slung bottoms to hardware details.

SHEER UTILITY

ree

As is the natural pace in the fashion world, designers are always pushing the limit on trending looks to see just how far they can take them. The latest subject of this attention is the patch pocket and wide leg pants, a la the utility trend. If you aren't in love with the idea of showing off everything you've got going on under there, do not fret. The standard utility trend is just as strong now as it was a few months ago. Look no further than the lineup below to see more daytime appropriate takes.

UTILITY

ree

One of two wears to way it: the more masculine version. With neutral, darker tones, and heavy, sturdy fabrics, this trend leans into oversized silhouettes and gets inspiration from oversized tailoring.

ree

And the other way: the feminine version. This uses flowy-er fabrics, like silks, and a lighter color palette to keep the trend from feeling too heavy.

DI(STRESSED) BUT WELL DRESSED

ree

Denim has been coming back in mini AND maxi skirts, and with the sheer trend that is going on is only makes sense for the two concepts to merge. Ergo, we eventually end up with distressed denim. If the fully ripped maxi skirt isn't for you, lean in to the trend with more subtle details, like the frayed hem of a denim jacket or a raw hem on your favorite pair of jeans.

DROP IT LOW

ree

This season, it is all about hemlines that touch the floor. We saw floor-length puddle trousers for a few seasons, so it only makes sense for skirts to follow suit. Floor length skirts were seen all over the runway in a range of fabrics. Go for a low-slung jersey if you are feeling sexier, or a knit for a more daytime feel.

JEANIUS DRESSING

ree

Julia Fox has been seen in low waisted denim skirts on more than one occasion, and who am I to argue? If you've already embraced the maxi hem trend, take it one step further by adding denim to the mix. Huge slits, body-shaping style lines, and pockets have helped to revamp the once dated style. Embrace your inner cowgirl with a denim maxi skirt and don't be afraid to add a cowboy boot to finish off the look.

SHEER ROMANCE

ree

Sheer pieces were all the rage this summer, when all of your favorite influencers were pictured in nearly naked dresses and sets. Now that fashion month has wrapped, it's clear that this trend isn't going anywhere. In a post Roe world, women are dressing for themselves and their own empowerment. Designers really upped the ante this season in terms of sheer dressing. Ruffles, volume, and feminine silhouettes were shown in romantic, barely-there fabrics. With more and more restrictions being placed on women's bodies, body-baring trends are defying the legislation that restricts women's autonomy.

SEE IT THROUGH

Bummed that summer is over and you can no longer wear that slinky summer dress? Designers sent sheer pieces down the runway in darker fabrics and sleeker silhouettes perfect for cooler months. Styled with boots and tights, these pieces can be layered and stay right at the front of your closet so you still feel sexy even if you can't be on the beach.

NO TIME TO WAIST

ree

Looking for a way to easily add dimension and accessorize your outfits? Belts have taken over runways and our instagram feeds. Belts are no longer limited to just belt loops - take your fit up a notch by adding them at the bust-line. Not a fan of that look? Layer them at the hips or emphasize your bare waist. While these methods of styling aren't nearly as practical as the age-old way of holding up pants, this departure from "rules" proved that fashion and functionality are more blended than ever and pretty much anything goes when it's paired with confidence.

LADIES WHO LACE

ree

Continuing in the vein of sheer, body hugging styles, lace has returned. No longer synonymous with grandma's doilies and little girl party dresses, lace was pictured on the runway with nothing underneath. As women are reclaiming their femininity and embracing body positivity, designers are providing them the tools they need. And by tools, I mean sexy silhouettes in sheer laces, netting, and embroidery.

TWO-FOR-ONE

ree

Skirts over pants were everywhere during S/S fashion month, and this styling choice isn't going anywhere soon. Matching skirts and trousers were layered for a more minimal approach, while some designers fully embraced the eccentricity of this nod to the early 2000s by layering dresses with trousers (see Burberry) or low slung leather with a skintight jumpsuit (a la the Y2K queen KNWLS).

STRAP IN

ree

Nensi Dojaka has been taking the fashion world by storm with her Y2K inspired cutouts and straps. More of this inspiration was pictured recently on the runway and on the street. Skintight sheer dresses and catsuits were layered with strappy bras and heels. There were also more structured versions of this trend, coming in leather and more tailored tops.

EASY ON TOP

ree

90s inspiration has brought back the "supermodel off duty" look a la Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss. The likes of Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner have adapted this inspiration to meet 2020s fashion, resulting in many looks with a tight top and flowy pants. This was a big styling choice on the latest runways - sheer or semi-sheer skintight knits were shown, often with low-slung bottoms or a mini skirt. For a fresh take on those cargo utility pants you likely have in your closet by now, pair them with an easy cut-and-sew top or basic white tank.

HEAVY METAL

ree

Y2K fashion is having its moment, and with this comes the emo, punk rock influence. Grommets, buckles, and rivets were a welcomed addition to this seasons runway. It's been nice to see minimal tailoring and classic silhouettes for the last few seasons, but the hardware added an edge that feels like an elevated take on the original 2000s studs and bedazzling.

DEVIL IS IN THE LACE DETAILS

ree

We've seen a resurgence of lace post-Covid, but the really fresh way to wear it is as a trim. Designers added style lines with lace inserts and emphasized the dainty details on the hems of pretty much every piece (skirts, jackets, tops, dresses, you name it). To take it a step further, they opted away from the classic lace slip silhouette and incorporated it into party dressing - lace was combined with organzas, bright colors, and sequins to give a sexy touch with just the tiniest glimpse of skin.

SO FRESH, SO CLEAN

ree

The classic white button down has seen a resurgence thanks to TikTok and Instagram fashionistas, and it has definite staying power. We've seen it evolve from businesswear to everyday wear, and recent runway silhouettes have shown is even more oversized than ever. Style it under a mini skirt for a new take, or with your menswear trousers for a boxy, laid-back look.

UP ALL NIGHT

ree

The glitzy sequin trend is here to stay. Post pandemic dressing is all about grabbing attention and not being afraid to do the absolute most. Runways this season were covered in sequins, both sheer and opaque. Go all out for your next night out, or mix a sequin top with denim for a more daytime look.

RUFFLES, VOLUME, LAYERS, OH MY!

ree

Continuing in that same party dressing vein, designers fully embraced dramatic silhouettes in bright colors. Gone are the days of minimal dressing - we have officially entered the world of maximalism. Chopova Lowena's version of puffed sleeves, tie details, prints, and huge fluffy boots show that mixing prints and silhouettes shouldn't be scary. Other designers used volume and color as the focal point of their looks, adding draping and bows for a statement.

THE TOP GUN EFFECT

ree

Thanks to Tom Cruise and Hailey Bieber (two things I never thought would be connected), bomber jackets are ruling street style. We've seen bomber jackets for the last few seasons as well, but designers this season upped the ante, adding extreme silhouettes for greater impact. Bombers are more often than not used as a jacket on top of the outfit, but these fresh takes make the jacket the focal point.
